  • Additional technical and regulatory documentation on request

The QS provides the applicable quality parameters, analytical methods, contaminant limits, microbiological criteria, storage conditions, and shelf life. The TDS provides the verified extract profile, composition, dispersibility, application guidance, and formulation and stability information.

Applications

  • Food supplement formulations: Suitable for vegetarian or gelatin hard capsules and tablets
  • Typical food supplement use level: 200–500 mg/day
  • Cosmetic formulations: Suitable for cosmetic product development requiring an icariin-standardized botanical extract
  • Typical cosmetic use level: 0.1–1.0%
  • Product development: Suitable for R&D, prototype formulation, pilot production, and commercial manufacturing programs

Product Notes

This product is manufactured from the leaves of Epimedium brevicornum Maxim. using water and ethanol as extraction solvents. It has a 20:1 extract ratio / DER and is standardized to an assay of ≥10.0% icariin by HPLC.

The supplied composition contains 90–100% Epimedium Extract and 0–10% maltodextrin. Because the maltodextrin content may vary within this specified range, the applicable batch documentation should be reviewed when calculating ingredient composition and preparing finished-product specifications.

The extract is slightly soluble to dispersible in water and insoluble in oil. Its dispersibility and inherent brown color should be evaluated in the intended formulation during prototype and stability testing.

According to the TDS, the extract is most stable under mildly acidic to neutral conditions at pH 4.0–7.0. Strong acids or strong bases may cause hydrolysis of the glycosidic bonds in icariin.

The material is relatively stable under normal processing temperatures, but prolonged exposure to temperatures above 80 °C should be avoided. Protect the extract from direct light and moisture during storage, handling, and formulation.
