Betulinaldehyde CAS 13159-28-9 is pentacyclic triterpenoid, a derivative of much more commonly found compound, betulin, that can be found in trace amounts in nature. Research shows, that betulinic aldehyde can alter biological processes and show anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects. Betulinaldehyde can also be a useful starting material for synthesis of novel therapeutic agents for creating triterpenoid hybrids. Thanks to the aldehyde group, it is easy to introduce new, interesting substituents at C(28) position for biological activity enhancements.
Aldehyde group of betulinal can be used for introduction of other heteroatoms, nucleophylic reactions or homologation reactions for expanding library of such compounds.
