What is Fisetin?
Fisetin is a natural compound in the flavanoid-type compound class. It can be obtained from various natural sources like strawberries, apples, onions, and cucumbers; however, more commonly, it is isolated from the Chinese lacquer tree Toxicodendron vernicifluum.
Like other flavonoids, Fisetin is most commonly used as an antioxidant. Due to its structure, it can counteract various reactive radicals, but it also activates various metabolic pathways to enhance our natural anti-oxidative ability.
Fisetin’s polyphenolic structure also shows other biological implications:
- Anti-cancer
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-aging
- Anti-microbial
- and more.
